On 11 March 2011, a massive earthquake, believed to be one of the most powerful earthquake, hit Japan and the tsunami brought tremendous damage to the northeastern part of Japan. What is the cause of earthquakes and tsunamis? Prof. CHAN Lung-sang from the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Hong Kong would introduce the mechanism and cause of events in recent years, including the Japan earthquake. The talk also addresses earthquakes hazard in Hong Kong region.
